Open building summit (2019)

The first Open Building Summit organized by OpenBuilding.co took place during the World Architecture Festival in Amsterdam on 4 December 2019. The full day programme on the Festival Hall Stage was attended by a large group of international visitors of the Festival. The Keynote by Founding Partner Marc Koehler on the Main Stage was received with enthusiastic response: OpenBuilding.co has landed in the international world of architecture!

The energy and dynamics of this Wednesday in Amsterdam were very positive: the presentations during the Summit attracted a lot of attention, the panels were lively and most of the visitors attended the whole programme. The Founding Partners of OpenBuilding.co found resonance with the international audience and the international guests that were invited to reflect on the initiatives and research of the collective.

Jeremy Melvin - curator of the World Architecture Festival - announced OpenBuilding.co as a movement with dynamic force, during his introductory speech for the Keynote of Marc Koehler. The principles of John Habraken may be more than half a century in the making, everybody recognizes the urgency to change the traditional building industry and develop a new, environmental approach to designing cities and buildings.

As the Founding Partners of OpenBuilding.co have shown in recent developments, the instruments for change are already available but need a broader implementation to have the desired effect. Thus the need for charing knowledge and experience is evident. The Open Building Summit 2019 has been a promising start to share knowledge in an international context.
