Architect Thijs Asselbergs is a researcher, connector and strategist. As a professor of Architectural Engineering at TU Delft, he engages a large group of students and teachers with his fascination for the innovative power of technology in architecture. He and his students explore the possibilities for integrating architecture and technology intecture®.

DNA
For Thijs Asselbergs, synergy is the driving force in architecture, through all scales and disciplines. Between the sub-disciplines of building physics, construction and design, but also between the researcher, the designer, the implementers and the users. The role of the architect also changes in this constantly changing landscape. Open Building addresses relevant themes within this climate. From his position at TU Delft, in the De Nieuwe Architect (DNA) program, he challenges the upcoming generation of architects to reflect on this and prepare for their new role in architecture.

Social technology
As one of the first representatives of high-tech in the Netherlands, Thijs Asselbergs is the originator of zappi, the material that can do anything. He also was the co-founder of the design magazine Items. Over the years his conviction grew that technology makes an important contribution to social progress, certainly in the areas of sustainability, circularity and energy saving.

Offspring
From 1996 his office de Architectuurcentrale was located in Haarlem. It has realized hundreds of homes per year in the Netherlands and Germany. In 2012 the office moved to Amsterdam's Keizersgracht, where a number of leading agencies settled under one roof. Together with Architects Cie, Marc Koehler, Jo Coenen Architects & Urbanists and others, this office became a rich breeding ground for partnerships. Architectuurcentrale is currently based in Amsterdam North.
